Florida jury awarded an 8-year-old girl $800,000 in damages after the youngster received second-degree burns from a McDonald’s chicken nugget four years ago.
In May, a different jury held the fast-food corporation and a franchise holder liable for the boiling hot nugget that burnt the leg of Olivia, aged 4, after she opened a Happy Meal in the car.
The Broward County grand jury settled on the cash figure after only two hours of deliberation on Wednesday, which is much less than the $15 million the girl’s family had requested in their complaint.
Her mother ordered a six-piece Chicken McNuggets Happy Meal from the drive-thru and gave the box to Olivia in the backseat.
According to the lawsuit filed in August 2019, the child dropped one of the red-hot nuggets into her lap and it became trapped between her car seat and leg for around two minutes, leaving her thigh
“disfigured and scarred” from burns.
